Creator Quiets Creation

Mark 4:39
Then He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea,
Peace, be still. And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

Thanks so much for joining me for a coffee break and the conclusion of our monthly WOW. Grab your coffee and let’s get back to this storm where the disciples are beyond panicked and Jesus is sleeping.
Now, I know I have felt a sense of panic that mirrored that of the disciples in some of the storms I’ve been in on the sea of life. I’d venture to say that the disciples weren’t just panicking, but they were terrorized. But when they find Jesus sleeping, their terror crashes with their exasperation, and they nearly accuse Him of not caring about them. Let’s stop there for a mirror moment.
I can remember many times wherein I have thrown myself a petulant pity party a time or two, wondering if God has abandoned my ship of life and left me to fend for myself through the waves of trials and terrors. It’s an awful feeling tied to a whole bunch of other junk, but every single time, He arose and rebuked the winds of life, the ones that really wanted to knock me down and take me out. More often than not, He would get my attention during the stormy circumstance, and teach me something and as I would grasp the lesson intended, the storm around me lost its power over my emotions.
I guess what I’m trying to share is that when we are still in a storm, that’s when we can see Him working peace in and around us. With Christ as the head of our ship in the sea of life, we can experience peace in chaos, even when the waves of life are tossing us here and there, changing the scenery all around us.
When I look at these words that Jesus Himself spoke to the sea, “Peace, be still,” I have to wonder and do believe that He wasn’t just calming the raging sea, but He was also speaking right into the hearts of the frantic disciples.
What storm is raging around you right now, rendering you without peace? Do you feel as though Jesus is asleep at the wheel? Oh, friend, I can guarantee you with all of my being, He’s not sleeping on the job, and your lack of faith that robs you from peace doesn’t render Him powerless, either, nor does it say He doesn’t care. But when we allow ourselves to truly trust that He has only the best in store for us, that He works all things, all stormy circumstances, for His glory and our good, we will not only experience a peace that renders us still with awe, but we are giving Him the worship He deserves.
What circumstance do you need Him to rise up and speak to?
In His love and peace,
Evinda
