Nana Holds-from Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power
Grab your coffee and let’s get back to where we left off after praying for divine intervention in this new twist of events in the season of Nana Holds.
After praying, we talked about what was next, that is for the next night or two. They had decided Bryce would go to Jene’s who lives with her family. The plus about that is that her dad is one of the pastors for a mega church and he was reaching out to Bryce in a way that I was totally incapable of doing. I breathed a sigh of relief, knowing I had some time to wrestle with my emotions and get a grip on them so as to not cause more damage.
I also knew in my heart that Jene’s dad would help to keep Bryce busy because he understands that a mind stuck on idle is the devil’s workshop and where the plans to miss the mark begin! I hugged Jene’ to me and told her I loved her. What I didn’t tell her is what my heart was telling me: Our relationship had changed, and I understand now, but not quite as well then, that it needed to change from what it had been.
I met her years ago and I connected with her in a way that could only be described as heavenly ordained. See, I was a sort of
mentor for her spiritually and we had a sweet friendship based on mutual respect and honesty. I was allowed to be a voice in her life when others weren’t and then when she decided she wanted to go to school to become a court reporter, I felt that our connection was even more entwined with strength, love and respect. She has held a special place in my heart and I have always been protective of her.
As she has grown into a young woman, I have come to trust her judgment and I’ve always wanted only the best for her. I guess that’s why I was so surprised, and a bit hurt, that she didn’t call us as soon as she got the call from Bryce.
When I asked her why she didn’t call us to let us know what had happened before she went and picked him up, she very matter-of-factly said that she didn’t feel it was her place to tell us; that it was his. It’s not that she did something wrong, per se. It just stung finding out after the fact stung. But her answer also revealed why she hadn’t answered her phone each time we called to check on Bryden while we were away.
She was in heart-deep, and her love for him and determination to stand by him came through so clear in her response that all I could do was embrace the change that was taking place as far as our relationship and my role in her life.
Join me tomorrow for more of this life-changing series that continues to change me.
