What you put into your marriage is what you’ll get out of it! EL

Monday’s Mantra

Thanks for joining us for Coffee Hour with Chicklit Power and Monday’s Mantra with Trench Classes United. I’m so excited to introduce you to a guest today. Her name is Julie Held and I saw this post on F.B. last week and asked if she wouldn’t mind sharing it with you today. So enjoy this perspective from Julie

As I was driving home today I saw seven posted signs along the road that said: “How to get a cheap divorce.” (Now before you stop reading this, this has no condemnation to anyone who’s gone through a divorce.) But my heart was grabbed and I thought, you never see the world putting out signs of “Come and get help for your marriage”; -- at least I’ve never seen that.
I was compelled to encourage the marriages out there to be anchored not in each other, but in Christ alone. That is the only firm foundation. All other ground is sinking sand.
When I look at this picture of my husband and me, I feel it’s so symbolic. Just imagine for a moment that instant when you said “ I DO.” In that moment, God gave your marriage a bag. And you don’t know what “surprises” are inside. It’s a journey map of twists and turns as you follow God together; the good times, the joys, the sorrows and pain, the dreams and hopes. Then there is one thing in that bag He gives you both and it’s His Word because as the Description: 💕scriptures say, “Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path.”
I don’t know where you might be in your marriage; it might be fantastic or it might be hanging on for dear life. Whatever season you are currently in, reach into your bag and grab the one thing that will help you keep your eyes on God. Read your Bible daily and pray together. Seek God. Bring your burdens and your thanksgiving to Him. Anchor yourself, and your marriage in Christ and watch God move mountains and your marriage will be a testimony of His great LOVE.

Faith in a fiery trial stirs His power and prevents us from getting burned. EL

 Faith Filled Friday

Good morning coffee hour friends, today we will be looking at one of my favorite Bible stories in Daniel 3: 14-30.
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would not submit to King Nebuchadnezzar’s orders to serve and worship his gods. This made King Nebuchadnezzar furious and so outraged that he ordered his men to heat the fiery furnace seven times more than it had been. The furnace’s heat was so intense that it burned and killed the men who were told to put Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace.
This, however, did not frighten either of the three or convince them to change their minds. Read with me....
Daniel3:16-17(ESV) 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
These men had great faith in our God. They believed without a shadow of a doubt that they would be delivered; they didn't know how, but the trusted God nonetheless to deliver them. WOW!
As we read on, we see that they were put into the fierce fire and that King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished to see four men walking in the fire and not three. He even had to question his men; we threw three men into the fire, right? In awe and amazement, he called them to come out of the fire.
Read with me....
Daniel 3:26 (ESV) 26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the door of the burning fiery furnace; he declared, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here!” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the fire.
Look at what King Nebuchadnezzar said,  “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here!
These three men had abounding faith in their God Most High, and by their faith, they showed this wretched king how great their God was.
I look at their great faith and pray that I to could have this great faith in my small circumstances. Their great circumstance is something we are unable to relate to, but their faith is something we can inspire to obtain. I know that we face tiny, small, medium, and large circumstances that require us to have great faith that God is for us and that no matter how tiny or how large the circumstance He will show up the same and with same great power no matter the size of our circumstance.

Remember beloveds, Satan is going to put many fires in front of us to discourage us from moving forward up the narrow and steep path God has set before us.  Let us stand tall as these three men did and soak in Gods truth and believe with great faith that God will pull us up from the pit we find ourselves stuck in. We are precious to Him; He knows our thoughts before we think them, He knows the number of hairs on our head, and He cherishes us and is desperately jealous for us.

If you find yourself discouraged this week, then let us stand together in faith and confirm our faith by facing the fire in front us. God is with us in the fire and we will NOT get burned.
Love,
Ashley

Seeing and hearing much and responding with less is more maturity. EL

Wednesday’s Word

There is little to nothing more satisfying or sweeter than to watch the growth of an infant into a toddler, from a toddler to a teen and then from a teen to a young adult. And it’s not just the physical changes that we observe, but the level of maturity as well. But how is it we determine our own growth?
Thanks so much for joining me today for Coffee Hour with Chicklit Power and Wednesday’s Word with Trench Classes United.
I was working with one of my favorite attorneys the other day; he’s brilliant…sometimes to a fault, and he admitted this when we were talking about the way he forms his questions as we were talking after the deposition.
But I get him; I can literally feel his mind going ahead of his mouth and what comes out sometimes are so many words. This is confirmed when the witness asks him to repeat his question and he looks to me to read it back! J J Praise God, every time I’ve been asked I’ve been able to read it back word for word. He’s a guy who speaks EVERYTHING he’s thinking…just about. I mean, he stores some thoughts up his sleeve for trial.
We both talked about how difficult it is for us to slow down in our talking, but even more difficult than that is slowing down enough to let others take their time with what they want to say.
This so reminds me of one of the biggest lessons I am still learning in ministry: just because we see something someone is doing, or hear something someone is saying doesn’t mean we get to say something! This is part of growing up spiritually and Proverbs 17:27 describes this level of maturity…in few words!
He who has knowledge spares his words and a man of understanding is of calm spirit”!
So no matter what we are hearing or seeing, we can remain calm…and spare our words and even choose to say nothing at all.
Love,
Kim-Evinda

Trust feeds our faith and fuels our hope. EL

 Monday’s Mantra

Have you ever watched a child jump off of something and into the arms of their parent? Perhaps you’ve actually been the recipient of that innocent, uninhibited and untainted ability to trust.
Welcome to Coffee Hour with Chicklit Power and Monday’s Mantra with Trench Classes United. I’m so happy you joined me today.
Every time I see a child unabashedly jump it just squeezes my heart with such a beautiful word picture of how our Father wants us to trust Him. Perhaps you are a person who has a hard time trusting…
No matter where you are in your journey, spiritual or otherwise, there are four things that we can trust about God which will feed our faith and fuel our hope; these attributes are nonnegotiable and are never, ever going to change. Nothing or no one can change them.
  1.      His steadfast love; it never changes; never grows weary or irritable! You can’t earn it, burn it so learn itJ
  2.    His provision – and this is in every area of your life: love life, financial life, parenting life, and His provision is also a form of protection.
  3.     His promises: there are over 5,000 of them for you and me.
  4.    His teaching and correcting: We must remain teachable to be taught the truth that trials and hardships are things He uses to refine us and bring us joy.

So Coffee Hour Friend, what circumstance or situation is pushing you to the edge of the ledge, bringing you face to face with the opportunity to just jump, like a child, into the arms of God and trust Him for?
Thoughtfully,
Kim-Evinda

When your thoughts are stuck, seek the Shepherd to anoint your head with oil

 Faith-Filled Friday

Thanks for joining us for Faith-Filled Friday!
This week on social media a friend of mine posted a song that helped her during a season of anxiety and depression. It is by Hillsong, Young & Free, and it spoke to my heart so I thought it would be great to share it with you.

You are peace to a restless soul
Peace when my thoughts wage war
Peace to the anxious heart
That's who You are; that's who You are
You are peace when my fear takes hold
Peace when I feel enclosed
Peace when I lose control
That's who You are; that's who You are
I've found peace far beyond all understanding
Let it flow when my mind's under siege
All anxiety bows in the presence of Jesus the Keeper of Peace
And peace is a promise He keeps

Shortly after reading the words to that song, my mom-in-love sent me a message about a passage in the Bible that talks about God anointing our heads with oil. I read the verse from Psalm 23, and the explanation of what it meant for the shepherds in that time to anoint the sheep.
The sheep would get their heads stuck in a barrier, and insects would lay eggs on their heads and in their noses and this would cause them to itch uncontrollably so they would ram their heads into the wall to stop the itch. The shepherds would anoint their heads. This understanding gives so much clarity for this portion of scripture in Psalm 23:5-6

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

I got to thinking, aren't we just like these sheep, getting our thoughts stuck on things that aren't the truth; finding ourselves listening to lies of the enemy to the point we want to bash our heads to make it stop, to silence the constant chaos that is going on in our minds? It takes the simplest thing to set us off course, just one word from someone, one mistake we made, the list is endless.
Beloveds, we aren't perfect and our imperfections make us easy prey for the beast to come to devour us, and he does so by turning us against ourselves. We must allow Him to anoint our heads with oil.
What is this oil? It is His perfect word.
Don't forget beloveds when the lies are overcoming you, to cry out Jesus and allow His Word to anoint your head/mind with oil.
Anointed,
Ashley

Spiritual fitness is to the soul what physical fitness is to the body. EL

 Wednesday’s Word

Have you ever heard of “The 7 Sins,” or “The 7 Presumptuous Sins”? Actually, I’ve heard these phrases several times and have been curious about their origin and meaning, but I just haven’t gotten around to studying them…that is until a sweet, sweet young lady that I’ve been mentoring pointed them out with a question.
She showed me a passage of scripture she had circled and outside of the circle was a big question mark. It was this portion of scripture, Proverbs 6:6-19, and as soon as I read it, I had my own a-ha moment for finally I was reading about “The 7 Sins”! To paraphrase, they are: pride, envy, lust, gluttony, anger, greed or sloth. Let’s push the pause button right here!
What caused my heart to pitter-patter was the definition for the 7th sin, sloth. Sloth means “the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.”
I must admit, I’m ecstatic to see that “spiritual” work is included! What does “spiritual work” mean to you?
We all encounter slothful or lazy people but how would you describe someone who is spiritually slothful? We are told in Philippians2:2 that we are to work out our salvation…and I do believe that is a daily workout! When I go to the gym, I usually have a routine, if you will, to exercising. I usually start with some cardio, and then I concentrate on at least two muscle groups. And I don’t take a long time to do it, but I get it done!
What does a spiritual workout look like? Now, don’t misunderstand me and think I’m saying our salvation is procured by works because it’s not. Our salvation is procured by grace, not works, but it is an exercise to be completed daily; otherwise, how will your spiritual muscles grow?
Diet and exercise do not just apply to the physical being! We are created mind, body and soul and when we feed and/or exercise the body without feeding and/or exercising the soul, we are out of balance. It’s kind of analogous to a car without the fourth tire, or a boat without a captain, or even more dramatic and traumatic, a plane without a pilot.  We’ve got to avoid becoming an emotional wreck and out of balance as a result of spiritual slothfulness.
To create a spiritual diet, think of it as Digesting Internally Eternal Things.  What does that mean? Well I’ll answer with a question: Did you know what goes in is what comes out?   What are you taking in with your eyes, ears and mind…spiritually? You can always begin your spiritually fit routine with prayer! He loves it when you talk with Him and consistent communication with Him is sure to grow your spiritual muscles! Start planning your spiritual diet that you may become spiritually fit and not considered spiritually slothful!
Thoughtfully,
Kim-Evinda

DARE TO LIVE LIKE HE’S ENOUGH! EL

 Monday’s Mantra

One of my closest friends called me the other day to tell me she sent me an email containing a blog post that she thought would speak to me. She’s really sweet like that…and yet, there are times that I wish she wouldn’t be so sweet, if you know what I mean? She speaks truth into my life, and there are times when that truth just hurts! Are you catching what I’m throwing at you? Well, those types of friends are the best for us, truly, especially if our heart is after God’s heart. Well, hers is and she knows mine is too.
Thanks for joining me today for Coffee Hour with Chicklit Power and Monday’s Mantra with Trench Classes United.
This blog post by Rebeka Lyons started with her experiences as a speaker/author, and her striving to get where she thought she should be and how one night in her hotel room after a speaking engagement, that ultimately led her to her knees, a most painfully beautiful place to land. As I read of her experience, I could feel every feeling she was writing, as if I was right there with her, down on my knees! Because when it’s all said and done, I know that there are just those times when we have to bow down in order to get up!
As I read her blog, I nearly stopped breathing as the truth of her words hit a bulls-eye, right smack in the middle of my heart, and conviction began to ooze out and a holy presence filled my space. My eyes filled up, blurring my vision but still I could see: “I don’t live as if You are enough.” Ouch!
I so related to her confession of counting the “likes” or “hearts” on her stuff she puts out there, her heart soaring when there were many, and plummeting when there were few.  Why is it we base our self-worth on how many “likes” or “loves” we get on something we post on social media? Where does our confidence truly come from? It’s a frustrating conundrum truly, because my editor from New York actually told me last week, “Your platform’s too small. You need to get your numbers up because your social media platform has become just as important as what you write”!
So how does one get away from the necessity of social media? Well, maybe we ought to consider why we’re posting what we’re posting. Is it for attention, popularity, to fulfill a need, such as being liked, loved and accepted? Or is it simply to encourage, lift up, inspire and motivate?
We have got to remember who we’re really posting with! See, we can’t do it for Him because if we do anything “for” Him, it’s in our own strength and often for own need or purpose; but to partner “with” Him before we hit that “post” button, well then we’ll never run out of strength…or words, and the “likes” and “loves” won’t matter because our Audience of One loves it and isn’t that all that really counts?
As I finished reading Rebeka’s blog, she cited something that she heard Ann Voskamp speak, and the echo of it is still speaking to me as I write this for you:
“Those who keep score in life just want to know that they count. When you work for an audience of One, you always know that you count.
My Coffee Hour friend, maybe it’s time to stop counting the “likes” and “loves” and trust that if we’re trying to send a message of encouragement to anyone, He will carry it right to the hearts that need it, and in the process, as it picks up speed in cyber space, the seed will scatter and reach many unseen “likes” and “loves.”
Love,
Kim-Evinda

No matter what you’re going thru, your Heavenly Father gets you! EL

Wednesday’s Word

I sat there sipping my morning coffee, wondering how I’d make it thru the day. Life had been coming at me hard, on every side, from every angle. In addition to one of my most favorite human beings – my self-adopted mom – being put on hospice care, we had to tell our little 8-year-old grandson that his mommy was no longer with us, and we needed to be as close to the truth as we could without giving him all the details.
Thanks for joining me today for Wednesday’s Word as I share from my heart directly to yours!
Have you ever gotten something just in the nick of time? Maybe it was something monetarily or emotionally, or physically, whatever it was, do you remember exhaling a sigh of relief? Or what about receiving something you had no idea you needed as desperately as you did? That’s where I was this particular morning, just a few mornings ago. I was so sad, heavy-hearted, wanting to protect our little grandson from this loss that would surely affect him, his future.
I looked down at my coffee cup, one I have drank from hundreds of times and it was like seeing it for the very first time. Only instead of exhaling a sigh of relief, I inhaled…and held my breath, startled by the obvious voice of Him who pursues us relentlessly and loves us lavishly, going through great lengths to continuously express it. And then I smiled, encouraged by His command, His reminder that He had already gone ahead of me; everything would eventually be all right.
Words can’t express how encouraged I felt, so allow me to share my coffee cup with you that you too would be encouraged…no matter what you’re going through.

I love how He speaks to me; how He is so able to get my attention; He gets me!
Love,
Kim-Evinda

A prayer can be as easy as a high-five! EL

Monday’s Mantra

Thanks for joining us for Monday’s Mantra & Coffee Hour @ Chicklit Power and Trench Classes United! Grab your favorite break-time beverage and let’s go ties some knots in our faith through a five-finger prayer!
I love learning new things, especially when it comes to growing my spiritual self.  And then, of course, I love to share what I’ve learned with a heart that hopes to encourage you in your journey in the classrooms of life. Psalm138:8 tells us that he will perfect that which concerns you and me, and that He will not forsake the work of His hands, meaning us! What a comfort.
So, first, to make this even more real for you, get a piece of paper and a pen and then trace your hand…go ahead, do it! It will be fun.
Okay. Now, looking at your hand-traced hand, right or left, let’s start with your thumb. Thumbs up, those we pray for first are usually the ones closest to us, so inside the thumb, put “those closest to me.” Then the next finger is your pointer finger, which represents those people in your life who point you in the right direction, so write “Leaders in my life” in that finger. Now that third finger…uh-huh, that’s the middle finger, and that finger is to remind you to pray for your…enemies! So write “enemies,” or even personalize it and put a few unlovable people’s names in that finger. And then the ring finger, did you know it’s considered the weakest finger? Oh, my goodness, what beautiful symbolism, especially if there’s a wedding ring on it! That finger is to remind you to pray for the weak, those less fortunate than you and I so in that finger, write “Weak, those in need.”
And then finally we have the pinky, which is to remind you to pray for yourself, so write “self” in that finger.  Do you pray for yourself, friend? Many of us are so concerned about others that we may forget to pray for ourselves, but just like the fingers on a hand, every one of them has a purpose…and so do you!
So next time you get ready to pray, remember all of your fingers to accomplish your five-finger prayer; it could be as easy as offering a high-five to God!
Love,
Kim-Evinda

TRUTH: LOVE WINS EVERY TIME!

Faith Filled Friday

Recently, I made a decision and I felt justified by my decision to remove certain people from my life. Now I didn’t make a big deal or scene with this decision I made; it was a decision I had made in my heart and mind. I felt no remorse for it and was convinced that God was behind this decision. You see I have been hurt by these people all my life, and my weary heart could not withstand it any longer, or so my weary self thought.
Thanks for joining me today for Coffee Hour with Chicklit Power and Faith-Filled Friday with Trench Classes United.
Last Sunday during worship they played a song that talked about fighting for love. As I sang this song, tears flooded my face. I was to fight to love these people, not for me, but for God because this is what He instructs us to do. I cried my broken and weary heart out to the Lord. I came before him standing, but in my spirit, I was on my face asking God to forgive my wretched heart. After worship, I dried my tears, and the pastor begins to speak in 1 Peter about loving your brothers fervently.  As I am listening to the message the tears continued to flood down my face. I couldn’t contain them. My purpose is to show Christ's love, and here my heart and mind’s decision was the furthest thing from His love.

1Peter 1:22 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Enduring Word

22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth [a]through the Spirit in [b]sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,
Looking back, I do recall a period of my life where I had fallen away from the Lord, and lived my life the way I wanted for my pleasures, and didn’t want anything to do with God. Yet, He still loved me and sought after me, and here I am throwing in the towel. Needless to say, my heart was convicted to the core, but I love how gentle and tender God is with correcting us. He does it with grace and love.

Can I encourage you beloveds, if there is someone difficult in your life who causes you pain or hurt, just ask God how you are to love them and for the strength to do so. It could be either through prayer or actions, a smile or a simple “How are you?”
You see when we put ourselves and our feelings down and allow God to work it’s not us they see but Christ who lives in us. Let’s be like Jesus, though we didn’t deserve his love or grace, He still gave it abundantly. Let us follow in His footsteps.

1 Corinthians13:4-8 New King James Version (NKJV)

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [a]puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, [b]thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
Love,
Ashley
