Isaiah 50:4 “The Lord God gives me the right words to encourage the weary” – the tired and/or fatigued. “Each morning He awakens me eager to learn His teaching.”

Well as most can see from social media or as you’re driving to work, school is in full swing. Summer was filled with lots of fun, family and adventures. And your role as parents has taken on another phase in life; either a new school, new teachers or maybe even new friends.  Grab your coffee and your our faith and let’s get started.
For many, the first day of school always fashions either new clothing, shoes and for certain, new school supplies, at least as far back as I can remember. When I was a child, it was a tradition.  I know from experience it certainly can be exasperating for parents going from mall to mall and feeling as though you’ve not accomplished much except a headache, tired feet, swollen ankles and cranky kids.

Wouldn’t it be great if they had drive-thru’s for shoes, clothes, backpacks and school supplies? I’ve even heard it to be said, that smart mothers take their mothers with them just for their own sanity and a good coffee break...if you get what I mean.

The roles of parenting certainly heighten and can take on a whole new perspective when school begins…it can kind of goes like this: “Hurry, get up; get dressed! Eat your breakfast; brush your teeth; comb your hair; pack mid-morning snack, lunches, midday snack, grab the books and hustle out the door before the bell rings.” We emulate a town crier of reveille at surprising hours of the morning, a clothes designer, a chef, a laundress, a spa-giver; you convert into a judge and jury sometimes of endless battles between yourself and your children and even between siblings and somehow find yourself emulating your own parents when you were a child! Whew, even I had visions of those days back then!!! So let me ask you this question: who is it that you are emulating before your feet hit the floor? Better yet, who will your kids be emulating when their feet, do, hit the floor?

A few years ago I was asked to take my grandchildren to school. As we approached the street we were to turn down, I had to stop at a stop sign and then proceed to make my turn; and before we got to the stop sign they inform me “Tutu, this is where we start to pray together, for our day.” And without fail they would begin to pray. It was pretty awesome to know when they saw the sign they knew to pray without being prompted to.

Even in the chaos of a hectic morning we still need to eat for nutritional purposes to sustain us till lunch, just as our souls are in need of spiritual food, His Word, is important to feed us daily. Let us be reminded of God’s word on every occasion to fit the demands of each household, just as my grandchildren were reminded of praying at the stop sign and as you begin to exercise your faithfulness you can and will crave the word of God before you even head out the door!

Make it a great year and don’t be surprised at the spiritual growth you will see in your children by simply taking that little bit of time to fellowship with the Lord before they start their day! Have a great weekend and remember, keep Him close to your heart!
